India: The Host of ICC Men’s World Cup 2023
Before we reveal the Cricket World Cup 2023 hosting country, let’s get some drumroll, please… It’s India! India, known for its rich cricketing history and passionate cricket fans, is set to be the epicenter of cricketing action.
The country has now received the honor of hosting this magnificent sports event for the fourth time in history. Such a proud moment for us, isn’t it?
Previously, India’s decision to boycott the Asia Cup hosted by Pakistan created quite a buzz. And in response, Pakistan’s call to boycott the Cricket World Cup 2023 in India just added more fuel to the fire. But no matter how much these two nations bicker with each other, cricket is one of many things that brings them together.
Much to our relief, the cricketing powers stepped in to find a solution. This issue was solved by dividing the Asia Cup hosting rights between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Being the neutral party here, Sri Lanka graciously hosted all the matches for Indian teams.
It was a win-win solution that allowed cricket to take center stage, which is exactly where it should be. Keeping aside bilateral issues, now is the time to rejoice and celebrate the world of cricket! Fans in India and abroad get ready to witness 10 teams battle it out in 48 matches.
The Cricket World Cup 2023 matches will be held across 12 beautiful Indian cities. Let’s see who gets to lift the ultimate trophy in the world of cricket!

World Cup Showdown: The Elite Teams of 2023
Yes, we know you’ve been dying to know about the selected teams who’ll be contesting for the ultimate prize in the Cricket World Cup 2023. Well, for starters, being the host, India is qualified by default.
The rest of the teams are New Zealand, Australia, England, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and South Africa. All these teams have been selected based on their performance in the ODI matches since the previous World Cup in 2019.
Moreover, there are two new additions! The Sri Lankan and Netherlands teams qualified earlier this year by battling it in a qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe.
Sorry to break it to the West Indies fans out there; your team won’t make an appearance this year. Unfortunately, Ireland and Zimbabwe have also failed to qualify for the Cricket World Cup 2023.
World Cup 2023: The Match Format
Those of you who had followed the previous World Cup back in 2019, you guys already know the drill. Let’s dive in and shed some light on the match format for the newcomers and give a quick refresher for the ones with rusty memories.
The Cricket World Cup 2023 will follow the 2019 format. First, there will be a single round-robin stage, followed by the semi-finals, finally leading up to the exhilarating finals!
At the first stage of the Cricket World Cup 2023, all teams will face each other once. The winners will gain two points. In case of a tie or no result, both teams will gain one point each. The top 4 teams will move up to the semi-finals.
At this level, the top-ranked team will play against the fourth-ranked team. And the second and third-placed teams will be pitted against one another. The winning teams will finally meet each other at the finals.
But here’s the catch: the boundary countback rule that led England to its victory in 2019 has been rejected. Therefore, if teams are tied in a knockout game and remain tied in the next super over, they’ll have to keep playing multiple super overs until the winner comes out.
So, get ready for some heart-pounding, edge-of-your-seat action in those tied knockout games. Who knows how many super-overs we might witness before getting our ultimate champion?
