The Covid-19 pandemic was truly a scary time for all of us. However, many of us were fortunate enough to be bored and restless at home. Out of the fortunate majority, half of the people decided to pursue a new skill, talent, product, or service.

The other half chose to binge on Netflix, HBO, and Hulu and take the long vacation they deserved and needed. We are not judging anyone; we all have different ways of coping with stress, anxiety, and grief.

If solving thrillers and murder mysteries on Netflix at 4 a.m. helps you cope with stress, bring out the popcorn!
Among the many OTT platforms that entertained and comforted us in these difficult times, Netflix is at the top. It has presented us with the best in business shows, including Money Heist, Friends, Squid Game, Sex Education, and Stranger Things.

And even though we aren’t restricted to our houses anymore, we still love those occasional breaks from work, right? Thankfully, Netflix has already announced its new releases for 2023, and we couldn’t be more excited!

Read on to learn about the most-awaited releases on Netflix in 2023!

Ginny and Georgia – Season 2

Release date: January 5th, 2023

The first item on our list of new releases on Netflix in 2023 is season 2 of Ginny and Georgia. If you’re a fan of teen drama, then this might be right up your alley.

The show follows the mother-daughter duo, Georgia and Ginny, as they navigate their lives in the fictional town of Wellsbury, Massachusetts. Critics frequently refer to Ginny as the “fifteen-year-old who is more mature than her thirty-year-old mother.” However, her behavior can also not be described as a grown-up in any way.

Georgia has a rocky and problematic childhood, occasionally featuring abuse and homelessness. She settles down in Wellsbury to give Ginny and her younger brother Austin a stable, suburban lifestyle.

Vikings (Valhalla) – Season 2

Release date: January 12th, 2023

If you’re interested in a period drama sprinkled with action, we’ve got a treat for you. Vikings – Valhalla is set after about 100 years of the events of the Vikings. It shows the end of the Vikings age with the Battle of Stamford Bridge.

The tension between the English Royals and the Vikings has reached an all-time high. In addition, Vikings also have internal conflict due to the divided Christian and Pagan views.

Prepare for a journey with Leif Erikson, Harald Hardrada, and Freydis Eiriksdottir as they cross battlefields and oceans to fight for survival and glory.

Sky Rojo – Season 3

Release date: January 13th, 2023

You should only watch this Spanish dark comedy action drama if you’re 18 and older. And if you do, keep your water bottle and all refreshments handy because once you start, it will be very difficult to stop.

Sky Rojo follows the journey of three prostitutes, Coral, Wendy, and Gina, who used to work at the Las Novias Club in Tenerife. The three run away to find their freedom and recover their lives, with their pimp and his two henchmen on their heels.

If you like the theme of panicked people making wrong decisions and getting chased by something much bigger than them, you’ll love Sky Rojo.

The Croods: A New Age

Release date: January 15th, 2023

If you’re an anime fan, you must’ve seen The Croods. And if you liked it, then we have some great news for you- The Croods: A New Age is coming out in 2023!

In the movie, The Croods are out searching for a safer habitat, and they stumbled upon their ideal, walled-in destination! But there’s a catch: they need to survive with the Bettermans, who are more evolved and civilized. This problem results in escalated tensions among both clans.

However, when true danger strikes, both teams must unite for survival.

You – Season 4

Release date: Part 1- February 9th, 2023; Part 2- March 9th, 2023

For those who’ve been watching You as a guilty pleasure, trust us when we say that you’re not alone. Yes, although the show’s overall plot is rooted in creepiness, bad decisions, and mad obsessions, it is undoubtedly addictive.

Joe Goldberg is a twenty-something bookstore manager who develops a highly problematic and excessive obsession with Guinevere Beck, a girl who walks into his workplace. He begins to stalk her obsessively until she finally notices him. However, like all excessive obsessions, it doesn’t end well.

Joe finally finds his match, Love Quinn, in season 2. Things were good (well, as good as they can be for Joe) for a while, but tragedy struck home again.

How excited are you to finally see what happens after the major cliffhanger at the end of season 3? Enough to vote it as the best show among all the new releases on Netflix in 2023? Because we sure are!

The Mother

Release date: May 2023

Sure, series are all great and fun, but not all of us have time for that. If you’re looking for a gripping, action-filled movie to entertain you for a night, The Mother is one of the new releases on Netflix in 2023 you should look forward to!

With Jennifer Lopez as the protagonist, The Mother revolves around an ex-assassin whose past returns for her. She finally comes out of her self-imposed exile to protect her daughter, whom she left behind long ago.

As you can tell, emotions will also be running high, so keep your tissue box handy!

Extraction 2

Release date: Early to mid-2023

If you’re planning to spend your June birthday with your gal pals, who better to swoon over collectively than Chris Hemsworth?

Packed with action, mystery, and thrill, Extraction’s sequel shows the return of Tyler Rake for yet another adventurous mission. This time, Rake and his team have to extract a family held hostage by a Georgian mobster. But before that, he has to break into the world’s most dangerous, impenetrable prisons.

Let’s hope for a happy ending and more than a few scenes where Hemsworth has to give up his already flimsy clothing. After all, adventure requires sacrifice; isn’t that right?

Never Have I Ever – Season 4

Release date: Summer of 2023

Next up is our favorite Mindy Kaling creation yet: Never Have I Ever! You’ll be able to stream the fourth and last season in the summer of 2023.

As always, we’ll see our most chaotic teenage protagonist Devi, but she might not be the same. At the end of season 3, she seemed pretty calm and mature, but will it last? Or will she go headfirst into her bucket of well-intentioned bad decisions?

There’s also much gossip about who’ll be Devi’s final endgame, her arch-nemesis/boyfriend/ex/friend Ben Gross, or her crush/boyfriend/ex/friend again/finally boyfriend, Paxton Hall-Yoshida? Or is there going to someone entirely else?
Maybe she’ll acknowledge that she doesn’t need an endgame at seventeen, but knowing Devi, that’s unlikely.

The Witcher – Season 3

Release date: Mid-2023

If some part of you deeply resented Henry Cavill for giving up the role of Super Man, we all relate to you. However, if you want to see more of him, we’re happy to say that The Witcher is back for a season 3 in 2021

Geralt of Rivia, sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Princess Ciri of Cintra are parts of different storylines before merging at the end of season 2.

Geralt had unknowingly demanded and therefore claimed Ciri before her birth by invoking the “Law of Surprise” as a reward for his service. When the two finally meet, Geralt becomes her protector and helps her fight against those who want her for her Elder blood and powerful magic.

Doesn’t that sound like such a riveting plot?
